Newcomers

If this is your first time at a Quaker meeting please let people know. They will make you feel welcome.

You can sit anywhere in the meeting room. After about an hour two Quakers will shake hands to signal the end of the meeting.

Quaker meetings begin in silence and this can sometimes last for the whole hour or Quakers may feel moved to speak or read. It can be quite challenging to sit in silence for a long time. Try to be quiet in mind, body and spirit. This can lead to a time of insight, revelation, healing or calm. If you find an hour too long please feel free to leave when you have had enough.

At the end of the meeting we shake hands and then the clerk or notice reader announces forthcoming events and gives news of members. At this point you may wish to introduce yourself but there is no pressure to do so. Then we have a cup of tea or coffee with a biscuit, which is a good time to ask any questions that you may have. Literature is available and books about Quakerism can be borrowed.

We also have a beautiful, peaceful garden for you to enjoy.
